Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the March 3, 2026 Edition

EDITOR'S NOTE

Hello and Happy Tuesday, EB! We told you! The weather experts are whispering that yesterday and today might be the last brutally cold days before spring gets its act together. We’re cautiously optimistic β€” and emotionally prepared to celebrate 60 degrees like we're on vacation in Belize. 🌀️

πŸ› TOWN NEWS

🌳 Million-Dollar Views?

A Dozen "Mini-Mansions" Proposed Near Riva

The quiet stretch near Riva Avenue might be getting a major glow-up (or a major construction zone, depending on who you ask). A builder has officially petitioned to construct 12 luxury homes to sell for about $1.3M each. As East Brunswick continues to grow, these high-end developments are sparking plenty of neighborhood chatter about traffic and our remaining green space.

πŸ’¬ Got Opinions? (Of Course You Do) & East Brunswick Wants to Hear Them.

Planning officials want to know how you’d spend the 2026 Community Development Block Grant funds which might total up to $300,000. These grants are earmarked for projects that benefit (i.e. 'do the most good') for seniors and underserved residents in our community.

πŸ“£ No More Squinting at Legal Ads Gone are the days of hunting through the back pages of the newspaper (remember those) for town notices. Thanks to a new state law, East Brunswick’s official public notices now live directly on the township website. Bookmark their page to stay in the loop on everything from zoning shifts to town hall tweaks.

🍱 Sushi Sadness on Route 1: We’re pouring one out for Aja Asian Cuisine & Lounge in New Brunswick. The former Fuddruckers location (shoutout to the old-timers who remember the cheese pump!) appears to have closed its doors for good. We’ll sincerely miss that dramatic hibachi flair in the vestibule.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

  • πŸ›οΈ State of the Town: Mayor Brad Cohen delivered his 2026 State of East Brunswick address. The big takeaways? More infrastructure upgrades, education investments, and a steady hand on the fiscal wheel. Watch a replay or read highlights.
  • 🌊 Splash Update: Crystal Springs rates for 2026 are out. The good news? Daily admission prices are staying put. Check the full price list here.
  • AMC Theaters says nationwide closures are looming. No word yet if our beloved Brunswick Square Mall location is in the crosshairs β€”keep those fingers crossed for our local popcorn fix. 🎞️
  • 🧊 Lace Up the Skates! It’s finally happening. The East Brunswick Ice Arena officially debuts March 22 with an alumni showdown (Chargers vs. Bears vs. Rams). We’ll see you at the rink! πŸ’
  • You can now ask Alexa β€œWhat events are happening at the library?” The East Brunswick Public Library has officially entered its smart-speaker era. The library has integrated its calendar with Amazon Echo.
  • Papa John’s plans to close hundreds of locations nationwide (no word on the fate of local franchises in EB and North Brunswick).
  • Wendy’s also announced closures across 5–6% of U.S. locations. No specific local impacts announced β€” we’ll keep an eye on the drive-thru lines.
  • Burger King is using AI to ensure staff say "please" and "thank you." The robots are polite, even if the fries are cold. πŸ”
  • πŸŽ‚ Milestone! We happened to stop in at Provident Bank on Rues Lane during their big celebration last week - turns out Feb 27th was their 175th Anniversary celebration. Congrats to all Special thanks to Craig and EVERYONE at Provident.

AROUND THE STATE

  • Traffic Cameras Could Be Coming to NJ School Zones. Lawmakers are considering allowing cameras on buses and in school zones to improve student safety. A big shift for camera-shy New Jersey.
  • Save Libby! NJ Libraries push back on sky-high E-book prices by supporting a bill targeting steep e-book pricing and restrictive publisher contracts, aiming to expand access and protect affordable digital reading statewide.
  • Driverless shuttles 🚐 may soon be transporting travelers around Newark Airport. The future is apparently now.
  • Dead geese in South Brunswick have raised concerns about an avian flu outbreak in NJ. None have been reported in EB β€” but experts recommend keeping pets away from goose droppings, just to be safe.
  • Not located in East Brunswick - but this Ocean-county manse is worth a second of daydreaming.
